THE LEGEND - DBS TELEVISION, THE TRUE PICTURE
Daher was an electronic Whiz Kid who started DBS television as a hobby. The station's first
studio was his bedroom from where he would transmit movies. Out of Paul's youthful passion for electronics grew what is today Saint Lucia's leading television
station. However, from its inception in 1987 DBS (Daher Broadcasting Service), never had a news department.
In 1993 Paul's Sister Linda started one, and became the Executive Producer of the DBS Newsworld; the
station's flagship news bulletin that airs at 7:00 p.m. every evening Monday to Saturday.
The DBS Newsworld had its first airing on the evening of June 21st, 1993, after a nerve wracking day
during which everyone hoped and prayed that the much-advertised premiere newscast would live up to
what it was billed to be.
It did. Linda and the boys celebrated with champagne and DBS has never been the same again.
A few years after the DBS Newsworld aired in 1993, the station broke new ground with Saint Lucia's
first ever television phone-in Talk Show - Newsmaker Live, with host Timothy Poleon, who is also the
nightly Anchorman for the DBS Newsworld.
Later, DBS TV would introduce the Island's first Morning Newscast and the first and currently only
Midday Television newscast - the Lunchtime Report, justifying its claim to be Saint Lucia's News
Leader. The claim has also been supported every year for the past five years by the annual media survey
conducted by Systematic.
DBS Television also presents every Thursday and Sunday a live Talk Show with Host - Rick Wayne, a
former Mr. Universe and current Newspaper Publisher and Journalist. The show is dubbed simply - TALK.
The station has a strong news bias, and a news team that blends youth and experience.
Its programming is targeted primarily at the middle class and the youth.
The station's mission is to provide Saint Lucians at home and abroad with accurate, reliable and
unbiased information along with quality programming.
